2019 July Disney Ukulele Challenge

Published by Cory on

Do you LOVE Disney? Do you LOVE to play the ukulele? If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, you’re in the right place!

If you didn’t already know, I have a YouTube channel called “Cory Teaches Music.” I post video tutorials for the ukulele and videos specifically for beginner ukulele players to use to improve their skills. I started this channel to use when at school with my kiddos but also because I really enjoy making videos. My channel actually started with a July ukulele channel to encourage my students to be active with music while they were on summer break. THIS year, I am opening up my channel to my subscribers and anyone who watches my videos.

Throughout the month of July, I will post two videos a week (Wednesdays and Sundays) featuring a Disney music tutorial. I will be gathering all of these videos and updating this post so everything you need for the challenge will be in one central location. In ADDITION, I will also have my Disney Playlist which features all of the Disney song tutorials I have ever made, so you can really let your Disney fan flag fly. (See down below or click here!)

Keep up-to-date with the challenge by using the PDF calendar to track your progress. I promise that if you are able to complete the challenge (or even try it!), you will drastically increase your ukulele skills.

Things to think about:

  • Take your time! If it takes you longer than a month to get through the songs, then it does! Everyone learns and develops at their own pace, so take it slow and steady.
  • Work in small intervals of time. There is no need to work on a song for an hour. Watch the tutorial. Try playing through it and then take a break. If you work on a song for any longer, there is a higher chance that you will get frustrated and give up. Allow yourself time to absorb information and then revisit it.
  • Be meaningful in your playing. Start by playing through the songs on the chord changes, THEN on the steady beat, and THEN with a strumming pattern. It is always better to be thoughtful when going through a playing progression rather than just trying to get through it.
  • But remember…Have FUN! I love Disney and when I sing and play Disney songs, it conjures amazing memories of watching the films for the first time or going to Disneyland or Disneyworld with my family. Those things are precious to me and I hope that you remember that the reason you are probably learning a Disney song is that you like it! Or even LOVE it! So have fun with the song. Make it your own. Share it with someone special!

Good Luck!

Cory
